Red River Delta Civilisation on show

Haiphong Museum in coordination with the National History Museum, the heritage centre of Thang Long-Hanoi and Haiphong’s antiques association hosted a major display of the Red River Delta’s civilisation in the city’s museum on May 9.

Haiphong Museum in coordination with the National History Museum, the heritage centre of Thang Long-Hanoi and Haiphong’s antiques association hosted a major display of the Red River Delta’s civilisation in the city’s museum on May 9. 

The event is part of the 2013 national tourism week’s activities taking place in Haiphong city.

Through 300 artifacts and objects, domestic and foreign visitors are introduced to the achievements, characteristics and life of the delta residents during the time of Dong Son Culture and Dai Viet (Great Viet) country under the Ly, Tran and Le dynasties between the 11th and 18th centuries. 

The event highlights the development of metallurgy via artifacts such as bronze drums, a collection of working tools, weapons and jewellery. 

The arrangement of the display’s topics wants to confirm that a brilliant civilisation appeared in the Red River Delta before Chinese and Indian civilisations spread and influenced Southeast Asia, the northern region of Vietnam in particular, said Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of the Vietnam National Museum. 

He also said the Red River Delta civilisation established Vietnam’s traditions and life style, and sets a solid foundation for national development.
