Reckless bus driver nearly causes deadly accident

A tragic accident has been avoided after a bus ran a red light in HCM City and nearly collided with a speeding truck on March 17.

A tragic accident has been avoided after a bus ran a red light in HCM City and nearly collided with a speeding truck on March 17.

 

Bus driver ran the red light

The incident was recorded by another driver on the at Binh Thai intersection on the Hanoi Highway.

The bus was waiting for the green light with other vehicles, however, when there were only five seconds left, the bus suddenly ran the red light and turned left, cutting across the opposite lane. At the same time, another truck on the opposite lane was also speeding and wasn't able to break in time.

The truck then tried to avoid the bus and nearly hit the motorbikes at the intersection.

 

Bus driver nearly causes accident

Tran Chi Trung, director of the Centre for Public Transport Management, under the Ministry of Transportation, confirmed the case and said that they were working with Quyet Thang Transportation Co-operative. The bus was driven by Nguyen Phuoc Loc and was not in operation at the time. Loc said he was bringing the bus to a repair shop.

"We have fined the driver VND1m (USD43) and suspended him for five days. The co-operative has its own rules and will deal with the driver accordingly," Trung said.

He went on to say that case has been transferred to the police.

The centre is working with the traffic police in HCM City to tighten monitoring and management over public buses. The police will monitor the buses and receive reports from the centre as well as the citizens to deal with violations. The case at Binh Thai intersection was also transferred to the Road - Railway Traffic Police Division.
