Heavy rain and moisture has helped to put an end to forrest fires in Lao Cai and should prevent more starting.

Many people refer to it as “gold rain” because it will help to supply more water to spring and winter crops, as well as limiting the chances of more fires.

Heavy rain in Lao Cai on February 18

According to Engineer Luu Minh Hai, the Deputy Manager of the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting of Lao Cai Province, there has been a continual decrease in temperatures in the north thanks to the cold atmosphere.

The dry climate from January 28 to February 15 enabled a fire to spread its damage over 1,700 hectares of forest in Hoang Lien National Park.

Trees and animals were also effected in Muong Khuong, Si Ma Cai, Ba Ha, Bao Yen due to a shortage of water.

Pham Van Dang, Director of Hoang Lien National Park was very happy because the heavy rain helps to destroy the possibility of more forest fires in Sa Pa after the last fire was distinguished on February 15.

The People’s Committee of Lao Cai Province plans to re-grow the 1,700 hectares of burned forest in Hoang Lien National Park, Sa Pa right at the beginning of this year.
