Originally from Bac Lieu Province, Xuyen moved to HCM City for work, where she met Bui Van Tan Anh. The couple married in 2020.
Anh's 61-year-old mother, Pham Thi Le, has been battling colorectal cancer for years and has undergone eight of the planned 12 chemotherapy sessions at Can Tho Cancer Oncology. Now, the family can no longer afford her treatment.
Two years ago, doctors diagnosed Anh with end-stage renal failure after he experienced fatigue, swelling in the limbs, jaundice, and frequent vomiting. The disease has led to complications such as pneumonia, cardiovascular issues, and cirrhosis.
Additionally, Xuyen’s father-in-law, Bui Van Chien, has suffered a stroke.
Huynh Huu Loc, chairman of the Red Cross in An My Commune, noted that Xuyen’s family is among the poorest in the area. Local authorities have arranged for a modest monthly subsidy, but he hoped donors would provide further help.
