PM Dung told his guest that the current trend is peace, friendship, cooperation and development but many countries are suffering from ongoing armed conflicts in many areas. Therefore, the UN’s peacekeeping role is becoming increasingly important and necessary.
“As a pro-active and responsible member of the UN, Vietnam will do its utmost to work together with the UN on promoting peacekeeping activities and development. The country expects to receive support from the UN to help its officers effectively perform their duties.” Dung said.

Regarding the East Sea situation, PM Dung asked the UN official to inform the UN Secretary General about the serious situation, making it possible for the UN to have a voice and action aiming to ensure peace and stability in the region.
Ameerah Haq, for her part, highlighted the establishment of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre as a great event marking the beginning of cooperation between Vietnam and the UN in promoting the agenda on peace and world security.
Haq said peacekeeping activities are increasingly complex and dangerous, requiring more forces. Only in the last three months, the UN has increased additional 38,000 troops for Congo, Somalia, Central Africa and South Sudan.
She said the UN praised Vietnam’s contributions in this crucial period and affirmed that the UN will support two Vietnamese officers to ensure safety for them.
Right after China placed its drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou- 981, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed the need to resolve the issue peacefully on the basis of respect for international law, Haq said.
