
485 flights delayed and 18 cancelled
in six-day Tet Holiday
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam as of February 1, the airports had received 1.47 million passengers, an increase of 20.3% compared to same period last year and 9,400 tonnes of cargo, 28.2% up on last year.
Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific and Vasco Airlines had 669,000 passengers and 2,400 tonnes of cargo, an increase of 15.6% and 23.6% respectively compared to last year.
Jetstar Pacific topped the list with 215 delayed flights, while Vietjet Air had 160 delayed flights. Vietnam Airlines recorded 106 delayed flights and 12 cancelled flights. The airline claimed the planes were sent to receive passengers at other airports during peak hours.
"Passengers would strongly react if their flights during Tet were cancelled. It's a serious problem. But our cancelled flights are not commercial and didn't affect any passengers," a representative said.
The spokesperson added they had a record 95.1% on-time performance during Tet Holiday.
Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City had about 700 flights per day. It received 593,000 passengers and 3,300 tonnes of goods, an increase by 15% and 63% respectively on last year. The peak was 786 flights with 123,000 passengers on January 25.
