Four people in the central province of Quang Ngai have been requested to repay their overseas training course subsidies.
According to the provincial Department of Internal Affairs, the province funded Pham Thanh Viet, Huynh Thi Lan Vien, Pham Thi My Hanh and Nguyen Le Ngoc Ha who are the children of the provincial former officials.
The four were sent abroad for study in line with the province’s master and PhD training project between 2011-2015 and a vision until 2020.
However, after finishing the course, they did not come back to the province for working as pledged. So, local authorities have decided to force them to pay a 200% fine for the training fee from late 2019.
Specifically, Viet has to reimburse nearly VND1.95 billion (USD84,782), while the figure for Vien, Ha and Hanh is VND2.05 billion (USD86,956), VND2.4 billion (USD104,347) and VND3.48 billion (USD151,304) respectively.
The payment needs to be made for two years and the violators can pay for 10 times.
But as of the first payment, Viet had paid VND400 million, Vien VND410 million, Hanh VND170 million and Ha VND120 million.
