Natural disasters leave 66 dead, missing in six months

Natural calamities nationwide left 66 dead and missing, causing losses of $106.7 million in Jan-Jun of this year, said the General Statistics Office.

Natural calamities nationwide left 66 dead and missing and caused economic losses of VND2.2 trillion (USD106.7 million) in the first six months of this year, said the General Statistics Office.

Preliminary report indicated that disasters damaged and toppled more than 10,000 houses, inundated over 67,000 hectares of rice and food crops and killed about 60,000 heads of cattle.

During this period, disaster-hit localities received over VND110 billion (USD5.3 million) in relief aid to help the locals stabilise their production and lives.

Additionally, in order to overcome shortage of food, ministries, department and localities dispatched 16.500 tonnes of foodstuff and USD9.2 billion to affected households.
