"According to the reports from provincial departments of taxation, about 100 company owners who owe back taxes have simply hide away, neglecting their their tax burdens. Most of them are in southern region," said Hoang Viet Cuong, Deputy Chief of General Department of Customs.

Representative from General Department of taxation said they beginning to list and categorise businesses that did so.

"Tax debt is currently being highly scrutinised. There are a number of companies who take advantage of tax deferments for as long as possible and then declare bankruptcy," he said.

The Ministry of Finance asked local departments of taxation to make inspections and report the results of tax extension policies for businesses that are in difficulty, or those that were required to relocate by authorities. Although the deadline passed on April 30, many of the departments have submitted no such reports.
