On June 3, a Swedish man came to a police station in Hoan Kiem District in Hanoi to report that his wallet had been stolen at a restaurant in Hang Trong Ward. His private papers, one ATM card and three credit cards in his wallet were missing.

He found that his credit cards had been used in a payment through a mobile phone alert on the same day.
Through the investigation, the Hoan Kiem police determined the theft was done by a group of seven Mongolian men. They often changed their accommodation. When they were in a border area of Tay Ninh, the Hanoi police informed Tay Ninh police to make an arrest.
On June 5, the men were detained while staying at a hotel in Ben Cau District. The police confiscated USD20,000 and several ATM and credit cards held by the men.
The group confessed that they had stolen the Swedish man’s wallet and then used his credit cards for their payment. They came to Tay Ninh with the intention of crossing the border to Cambodia but were arrested.
