The water in the West Lake in Hanoi is being polluted according to a new report by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
West Lake in Hanoi
The ministry announced on April 1 that they had sent employees to inspect and take samples after the water in the West Lake turned green. The results show that West Lake is being polluted. Many data exceed the national standards on water quality, biomass and cell density of phytoplankton.
The ministry has asked Hanoi People's Committee to have suitable measures to improve the water quality in West Lake and ensure the ecological balance in the lake.
Hanoi authorities also need to monitor the water quality and have spot and regular tests on pH, ammonia, and algae density. They must also check if there is any wastewater discharged into the lake and strictly punish violators.
According to the ministry, Hanoi authorities should prepare a plan to replenish water to the lake in case of a long dry season, regularly pick up rubbish from the lake and dredge sediment to clean the lake.
