Vietnamese chess Grand International Masters Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son had good results in their second round matches at the World Chess Cup yesterday in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia.
Liem, with white, attacked from the start to defeat local GM Boris Grachev. The Vietnamese dominated from the 17th move and forced his rival to concede on the 57th.
It was Liem\'s second match to be broadcast live on chessdom.com.
Meanwhile, Son drew against GM Peter Svidler, another Russian, who proved a strong opponent for the former world under-10 champion.
Svidler is seeded No 9 and is one of the title candidates, while it was the first time Son, 21, had made it to the second round of a World Cup.
The second leg of the second round will be held this evening. The advantage belongs to the Vietnamese pair. Liem, despite taking black pieces, has already won one match. He needs a draw to go on. Son will take white and is expected to get good result.
