The forest is located in Ca Dy Commune in Nam Giang District.

Dozens of ironwood trees of around 63 cubic metres in the forest have been cut down.

At the scene, many tree stumps with a diametre of over 30 centimetres were found logged.

Nguyen Dang Chuong, vice chairman of the Nam Giang District People’s Committee, said local authorities have decided to investigate the case.

Chuong added that for endangered and rare wood species, if the damage is from 5 cubic metres or more, the case meets the conditions for prosecution.

The ironwood species is listed as endangered, rare and precious.
