Police in the central province of Quang Binh have raided a large-scale illegal mineral quarry in Tuyen Hoa District.
The iron mine covered an area some three-hectares wide and seven-metres deep. Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee had given a license for a local firm to exploit the site on an area of over seven hectares in 2010. However, the license was revoked in 2013 by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Despite the ban by the ministry, exploitation activities have been going on at the site. On the evening of December 5, Police in Quang Binh carried out a raid and arrested nine people and seized nine trucks that were transporting ore from the site. Police are further investigating the operation of the ring.
