On March 15, a clip on the case went viral on social networks, stirring public outrage. According to the clip, the female vendor on Ba Dinh District’s Thuy Khue Street initially invited two foreigners to taste green jujubes and then charged them VND200,000 (USD8.16) for a small bag of fruit.

The vendor has been fined for overcharging the tourists
The customers disagreed with the price and an argument developed.
After witnessing the case, a nearby security guard approached and said it was too expensive to sell the green jujube bag for VND200,000 and told the vendor to give the foreigners the money back.
The woman then returned VND200,000 to the two customers. The foreign tourists expressed their thanks to the security guard for his help.
Nguyen Minh Hoai, Chairman of Buoi Ward, said that through a quick investigation, the local police found the vendor who was originally from the northern province of Hung Yen. She usually sells fruits on Thanh Nien, Thuy Khue and Hoang Hoang Tham streets.
At the police station, she admitted what she had done and apologised.
She was fined VND150,000 for overcharging and promised not to repeat the behaviour.
