The Hanoi Transport Association has just proposed to turn the island in the middle of the Red River into parking area to ease congestion.
Bui Danh Lien, head of Hanoi Transport Association, suggested covering part of the Kim Nguu River, running from Dai Co Viet Street to Phap Van Highway, so that people can park their vehicles above the river.
If the project is approved by Hanoi authorities, the parking area can be opened to tender and Hanoi Transport Association has expressed an interest.
Secondly, they have suggested Long Bien Bridge could be turned into a tourist attraction if Hanoi built another new bridge to cross the Red River. The association has suggested turning the island in the middle of the Red River into a parking area via the bridge.

Rapid urbanisation has led to high-density housing and congestion, so people should be housed in suburbs in order to limit demand on housing in the city centre.
Lien said these were their rough ideas and hoped that they can help ease the increasingly severe congestion in the capital.
