Construction of the mosaic began in 2008 and finished in 2010, in time for the capital’s 1,000th anniversary. The four-km work cost VND65 billion (USD2.81 million).

The work was awarded the Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi Prize, reserved for significant projects in the capital.

It is easy to see piles of rubbish along the road. Many cracks have also appeared in the work.

The deterioration may be due to technical problems during construction.
