Hanoi ceramic road severely deteriorated

Hanoi’s Ceramic Mosaic Road decoration which won the Guinness World Record certificate as the world’s largest ceramic mosaic in 2010 has seriously deteriorated.

Hanoi’s Ceramic Mosaic Road decoration which won the Guinness World Record certificate as the world’s largest ceramic mosaic in 2010 has seriously deteriorated.

Construction of the mosaic began in 2008 and finished in 2010, in time for the capital’s 1,000th anniversary. The four-km work cost VND65 billion (USD2.81 million).

The work was awarded the Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi Prize, reserved for significant projects in the capital.

It is easy to see piles of rubbish along the road. Many cracks have also appeared in the work.

The mosaic wall mural is made from ceramic tesserae from Bat Trang. It represents decorative patterns from various historic periods in Vietnam. Modern artwork, paintings of Hanoi, and children's drawings are also included on the wall.

The wall was previously renovated in 2015 and 2017.
