Government considering high speed railway service

The Ministry of Transport will hold a seminar on the North-South high speed rail project and perform a public opinion poll.

The Science & Technology Department and Vietnam Railway Corporation under the Ministry of Transport (MoT) will hold a seminar on the North-South high speed rail project and perform a public opinion poll.

Experts and scientists of the industry and other relevant fields will attend the event before a public announcement about the project.

The MoT's Department of Planning & Investment and Vietnam Railway Corporation will report to the National Assembly Standing Committee in mid-April and the National Assembly in May this year.

The express railway route would cover 1,570km in length with two terminals at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The total investment is estimated to require $38 billion.

As planned, when the project is put into operation, the journey from the North to the South will take five and a half hours compared with the conventional railway journey 30 hours.
