Rescuers had to use machetes to clear dense vegetation and open a path down the ravine. They then deployed a specialised pulley system and safety harnesses to descend and reach the victim.

On Thursday evening, the victim was brought out of the ravine.

The site has been secured for investigation.

No further information about the foreign traveller has been discovered.
