The crocodile caught by Nguyen Van Chuyen on November 12
A resident of Tay Ninh Province has captured a wild crocodile while fishing on the Cai Co River and voluntarily turned it in to authorities.
Nguyen Van Chuyen, 30, was setting his nets on the Cai Co River near the Cambodian border at about 9.50 pm on November 12 when he felt a large animal thrashing in the mesh.
Hauling the net in, Chuyen panicked when he realised it contained a fully grown crocodile, over one metre in length and weighing around 37 kilograms.
Recognising that the reptile was wild and should be protected, he took the crocodile to Song Trang Border Guard Station to hand it over.
Officers at the Song Trang Border Guard Station praised Chuyen’s action, describing it as a sign of respect for the law and cooperation with authorities in safeguarding wildlife, particularly in sensitive border areas.
The crocodile is being cared for and will be transferred to a competent agency for conservation and research purposes.
