The event saw the attendance of Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Nguyen Thien Nhan.
On October 23, 1961, Regiment 759 (predecessor to the 125th Naval Brigade) was established to open a strategic route at sea for the transport of cadres, soldiers, weapons, goods and medicine from the rear in the North to the frontlines.During the fifteen years from 1961 to 1975, the 125th Naval Brigade mobilised 1,879 ships, transporting more than 150,000 tonnes of weapons, technical equipment and medicine, as well as over 80,000 officers and soldiers from the North to the South, contributing to the cause of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
Addressing the programme, VFFCC President Nhan appreciated achievements and feats of arms of the Vietnamese Naval Forces, particularly the veterans of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail.
He emphasised that the legendary Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail reflected the strategic vision of President Ho Chi Minh and the leaders of the Party, State and People’s Army of Vietnam in connecting the rear and frontlines during the war against US imperialism.
The VFFCC President said that generations of Vietnamese people would be forever proud of the heroic sacrifices and dedication of the veterans of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail. He also noted that the VFFCC always respected and appreciated the active and effective activities of the National Association for the Tradition of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail over the years.
The VFFCC leader asked the Vietnam People’s Navy to continue to promote its traditions, as well as to creatively apply and develop lessons and experience from the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail to the cause of firmly protecting the country’s sovereignty over its seas and islands in the new period.
On the occasion of the anniversary, VFFCC President Nhan presented a commendation flag to the National Association for the Tradition of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail.
