Erosion has occurred along a beach in the central province of Quang Nam, sweeping away dozens of houses and shrimp ponds.

Over the past five years, nearly two kilometres of Cua Lo Beach have been affected by erosion, worrying more than 100 households in Binh Trung Village of Nui Thanh District.

Many spots have been battered by waves, causing severe 3-5 metres deep erosion. Hundreds of trees have been washed away.

Nguyen Tan Hung, chairman of Tam Hai Commune, said erosion has worsened, particularly during the rainy season.

Luong Ngoc Minh, a resident from Binh Trung Village, said many houses, shrimp ponds and trees have been swept away. Some households have had to move.

"The locals have reported the problem to the district authorities and expected that solutions would be taken to improve the situation,” Minh added.

Nguyen Van Thanh, another local person, expressed concerns that the remains of his ancestors could be swept out to sea.
