Elderly couple calls for help for their grandchild

An elderly couple in Ha Nam Province is in need of financial support to help treat their eight-year-old granddaughter after her mother died and father left her.

Ta Thi Thao Van has cerebral palsy

Ta Thi Thao Van's mother died eight years ago at Hanoi's Bach Mai Hospital after giving birth. Unfortunately, Van was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She hasn't been able to walk and needs to be taken care of constantly.

"When she was born, the villagers worried that we wouldn't be able to raise her on our own." Van's grandmother, Ta Thi Mot, said, "Her father doesn't want to raise her and already has his own family. We don't blame him, we only feel sad for Van because she doesn't have any fatherly love."

Van can only say one word "grandfather". She calls grandfather whenever he returns home and is really well-behaved when she is held.

The death of Van's mother was a huge shock to her grandparents. Now their only concern is Van's health and her future when they are dead.

Ta Van Toan, head of Village 2, said "Van's situation is really unfortunate and we are concerned because both of her grandparents are really old and don't have any solid source of income. The villagers are also poor and can only help them so much."
