Daily Covid-19 cases continue to fall

Vietnam continued to report a fall in daily Covid-19 infections with 8,537 cases confirmed on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 8,530 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 34 localities including HCM City (3,786 cases), Binh Duong (2,978), Dong Nai (803), Kien Giang (203), Long An (194), Tien Giang (112), and An Giang (90). There were seven imported patients confirmed today.

The new infection number showed a decrease of 935 cases compared to yesterday's figure with the HCM City epicentre reporting a fall of 1,266 cases. There were 4,068 infections found in the community.

As of Friday evening, 732,492 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (362,493), Binh Duong (193,235), Dong Nai (43,925), Long An (31,425), and Tien Giang (13.643). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 736,972. The country now stands 46th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On September 24, an additional 12,371 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 505,859.

On Friday evening, a further 203 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 18,220. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (140), Binh Duong (30), Dong Nai (15), Long An (7), Can Tho (3), An Giang (2), Tra Vinh (1), Danang (1), Kien Giang (1), Ben Tre (1), Bac Lieu (1), and Thanh Hoa (1).

The country has so far conducted over 36.79 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 7.25 million people having received two doses.
