Container turned to villa

Containers are just containers if they are not assembled the way Van Cong My did.

Containers are just containers if they are not assembled the way Van Cong My did. He has created a unique villa using container.

A container made villa by Sai Gon River, Thu Duc District, HCMC

My Thanh is made up of twenty-eight 20 foot containers and has two floors on a 500 square metre area. It is the first container made villa in HCMC.

The foundation of the villa will be made of concrete worth VND30 million ($1,600). The builders use anti-rust paint and heat resistant walls to deal with the hot weather in Ho Chi Minh City. From outside, you would never know the villa was made from a container.

The villa will have concrete walls, plaster ceilings and wooden floors. My said it will take him about 3 months to complete it and it can be used for 50 years. The construction expenditure is 30 per cent cheaper than traditional construction methods. He also hopes to build a container restaurant in Thanh Dan Peninsula, Binh Thanh District.

The initiation belongs to architect Nguyen Cuu Long, Manager of Company 2 under Descon Corporation. Long said it’s growing in worldwide popularity to build apartments, restaurants, supermarkets and more with containers. However, in Vietnam, we usually use them to set up offices at construction sites.

He came up with this idea when he found that there was an abundance of containers that were not in use. He felt that they should not be wasted.

District 2 in HCMC and Ninh Kieu District in Can Tho city will also undergo container construction projects soon.

Below are some photos about the unique villa:
