Agoda announced on Tuesday that during the holiday, the number of searches from China for Vietnam almost bounced back to pre-Covid-19 levels, reaching 95 percent of 2020's figure.
HCM City, Hanoi, Nha Trang, Danang, and Phu Quoc were among the most-searched destinations in Vietnam by Chinese travellers during this year's Tet holiday, while the 2020's list included HCM City, Nha Trang, Hanoi, Danang, and Phan Thiet.
Director of Agoda Vietnam, Vu Ngoc Lam, said that the uptick in Chinese interest indicated a positive future for Vietnam's tourism.
"Statistics showed that Chinese tourists accounted for nearly one third of the total number of visitors to Vietnam in 2019, becoming the country's largest source of tourism revenue," he said " Chinese tourists also ranked first in searching for Vietnam tourism in 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic with various restrictions caused the searching figures to sharply drop between 2021-2023."
According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam received over 1.50 million foreign visitors in the first month of 2024, up 73.60 percent compared to the same period last year. Chinese visitors continued to make up the largest group with over 242,000 during the period.
Some 1.74 million Chinese tourists visited Vietnam in 2023, up 376 percent on-year, making it the country’s second-largest source market.
