On the morning of March 2, the force detected three Chinese fishing boats at the water area which is roughly 40 kilometres offshore and over 20 kilometres beyond the fishing grounds shared by Vietnam and China.

Right after that, the force sent two vessels with 16 members on board to intercept the Chinese fishing boats. In the afternoon of the same day, they seized two vessels with nine people on board among the three Chinese boats.
The Chinese fishermen were requested to sign documents admitting they had strayed into Vietnamese waters before they were released, while the third escaped out of Vietnamese waters.
