Passengers get on a Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro train
The incident occurred at 5.36 pm, and service resumed after 25 minutes. During the suspension, Hanoi Metro coordinated with the Hanoi Public Transport Management and Operation Centre to provide shuttle bus services between Cat Linh and Thuong Dinh stations in both directions.
Announcements were made on board and at stations to inform passengers of the disruption. Staff were on hand to assist and offer ticket refunds to those who did not wish to continue their journey.
Hanoi Metro said all technical procedures followed protocol to ensure passenger safety. “We regret this unexpected technical issue and appreciate the understanding and continued support of our passengers,” the company said in a statement.
This was the second incident in 10 days. On May 19, water was seen leaking from the ceiling of a passenger car on a train heading from Cat Linh to Ha Dong. The company later explained that a malfunction in the air conditioning control system had caused the leak. It described the event as a “rare and unfortunate incident” and apologised to affected passengers.
Several infrastructure components on the Cat Linh-Ha Dong line have shown signs of deterioration. A recent inspection report from the Hanoi Department of Construction, released on May 29, highlighted damage to multiple station facilities, including dislodged roofs at Yen Nghia, broken and tilted glass railings, and damaged escalator covers and walkways.
