He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival. His first viral test taken on October 7 was negative but the second test on October 11 came positive for coronavirus.
He is now being treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Earlier, six other Indian experts who boarded the same flight with him were also infected with coronavirus and are being treated in Vietnam.
As of 6pm on October 12, a total of 1,025 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
The country has gone 39 days without reporting any new case in the community.
At present, over 16,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
