A farmer living near the Ho Citadel in Thanh Hoa Province unearthed a bronze drum estimated to be up to 2,500 years old while digging foundations for his house.
The Ho Dynasty was recognised as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2011. Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Conservation Centre said they had sent an inspection team to receive and preserve the drum in accordance with regulations.
The drum was discovered by Trinh Van Loan in Cau Mu Village, Vinh Loc District. He was digging foundations just a kilometre away from the heritage site when he noticed something in the earth.
The drum is 43cm high and has a diameter of 59cm. According to the patterns on the drums, this could be a Dong Son culture Heger 1 drum and was made 2,000-2,500 years ago. On the surface is a 12-sided polygon but there is no frogs decorated on the outer area of the surface. However, parts of the drum was broken and oxidised over the years.

Cau Mu is an old village near the citadel of Ho Dynasty. Several ancient drums have been unearthed around this area before.
In 2014, a local man in Ha Trung District found an ancient drum while digging a pond and a couple in Thach Thanh District discovered an old drum and a pot while working in their garden.
