Two flights carrying 181 workers from Libya arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on the morning of February 26 and another flight with 115 workers landed in Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of the same day.

Meanwhile, at 9am on February 27, a Russian airline bringing 83 more labourers reached Noi Bai international airport.

Those 83 labourers were from the International Manpower Supply and Trade Company (SONA), under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

SONA is one of the companies that exports labourers to work in Libya and had 2,200 labourers in the country when the troubles started. By February 27, the company had brought 104 labourers safely back to Vietnam. Its remaining 1,329 labourers are also leaving Libya, including 100 in Egypt with plane tickets to return to Vietnam and 26 staying in Turkey. 440 are now in Malta, 41 are on the way to Egypt overland and 719 are heading to Malta by ship.

*** Also, on February 27, 382 more Vietnamese labourers leaving Libya through the Salloum border gate reached Cairo international airport in Egypt. They belonged to the Vinamex Company and some were working for Huyndai AMCO of the Republic of Korea.

So far, 709 Vietnamese labourers have arrived at this airport, 185 have already boarded planes to return home, the rest will be brought to the fatherland when plane tickets can be obtained.

The Vietnamese embassy in Egypt is now coordinating with related agencies and businesses to complete the necessary procedures to transfer the Vietnamese labourers back home. The Vietnamese embassy in Egypt has committed to provide enough daily food and beverages for the labourers while they are in transit in Egypt.

According to the Vietnamese embassy in Egypt, 44 Vietnamese labourers working for Libya’s SVLidco Company are on the way to Egypt through the Salloum border gate. Earlier, Turkey sent a list of over 700 Vietnamese labourers who were scheduled to enter Egypt through this border.

*** At present, about 5,500 Vietnamese labourers have been evacuated from Libya to a third country from where they will return to Vietnam.

Five task forces, including representatives of Vietnam’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Public Security, and businesses have left for Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, Greece and Malta to coordinate with Vietnam’s representatives there and facilitate the necessary procedures to bring the workers home.

More than 1,000 Vietnamese workers are gathering in Turkey, but they don’t have plane tickets to return the fatherland. The task force brought food and water for the labourers. On the evening of February 27, the steering committee assigned a special aircraft to go to the region and bring the Vietnamese workers home.
