153 Mekong Delta houses damaged due to Typhoon Wipha

Around 153 houses in the Mekong Delta region have been damaged due to heavy rain and strong winds brought by Typhoon Wipha.

According to the Irrigation Sub-Department of An Giang Province, torrential rain and strong winds on July 20-21 damaged 99 houses, with 11 completely collapsed and 88 unroofed.

A house in An Giang is destroyed by rains and violents winds caused by Typhoon Wipha 

Nhon My Commune was the hardest hit, with 19 houses affected, followed by Tan Hiep Commune with 10. Notably, a fishing boat in the Phu Quoc Special Zone sank during the storm, resulting in an estimated loss of over VND 3.6 billion.

Dong Thap Province has reported damage to 26 houses and one livestock shelter.

Meanwhile, in Can Tho, 27 households were affected, including one that completely collapsed and 26 others that had their roofs blown off or sustained partial damage. The thunderstorm also injured two local people and ruined some power lines.

Storm Wipha has resulted in total losses of approximately VND 4.6 billion (USD 176,000) for Mekong Delta localities.

Rapid response teams in affected localities have been deployed to assist residents in securing and rebuilding their homes.
