Nha Trang sets up team to catch stray dogs in tourist areas

Authorities in Nha Trang Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, have established a specialist team to tackle roaming dogs and other uncontrolled pets, particularly in busy tourist areas, to improve public safety.

Local authorities said on November 4 that the team would handle free-roaming pets and animals showing signs of rabies.

It is the second ward in the Nha Trang area to establish such a team, following Nam Nha Trang Ward, where authorities have already caught roaming dogs without muzzles and fined owners for violations.

The new team will operate throughout Nha Trang Ward, focusing particularly on beachfront areas popular with tourists.

Although the number of roaming and unmuzzled dogs has fallen significantly along central streets such as Tran Phu, Nguyen Thien Thuat, To Hien Thanh and Hung Vuong, violations persist.

Some residents and foreign tourists continue to walk dogs without muzzles or allow pets to roam freely on beaches and streets. Dogs have also been taken into the sea, raising safety concerns for swimmers.

Alongside catching roaming dogs and cats, authorities will raise awareness of penalties for pet ownership violations and promote rabies prevention measures.

Residents will also be urged to keep pets under control in streets and residential areas.

The initiative is expected to improve public safety and help maintain a safe, welcoming tourism environment in Nha Trang.
