Nghe An plans 20.25 million cubic metres of stone for Hanoi

Nghe An Province is drawing up plans to supply Hanoi with 20.25 million cubic metres of construction stone between 2026 and 2030, while ensuring sufficient materials for its own development projects.

The province is reviewing mineral reserves, quarrying capacity and potential supplies to support major national infrastructure projects and meet demand from other localities.

Under the proposed supply plan, Nghe An will identify specific quarries, delivery volumes and schedules, taking into account production capacity and local construction needs.

According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, Nghe An currently has 223 active mineral extraction licences, 61 licences for operations that are suspended or have yet to begin, and five expired licences.

The department is working with relevant agencies to assess remaining mineral reserves, extraction capacity and actual supply potential.

Phung Thanh Vinh, vice chairman of the Nghe An People's Committee, said the province would decentralise mineral resource management and streamline administrative procedures to increase supplies for major national projects.

Measures will include simplifying quarry licensing procedures and facilitating increases in extraction capacity to help businesses expand production.

Authorities will also review 61 licensed but inactive mining operations, identify obstacles and seek solutions to bring eligible sites into operation.

Alongside efforts to increase production, Nghe An is strengthening oversight of mineral extraction and transport.

The provincial Department of Science and Technology and police are working with MobiFone Nghe An to develop a mineral resources database and standardise surveillance cameras and weighbridges at quarries and storage sites.

Authorities will also tighten inspections, monitor construction material prices and address violations.

So far, 210 quarries and 16 inland waterway terminals have connected their weighbridge and camera data to a central monitoring system.

However, 79 quarries remain unconnected, mainly because they are inactive, suspended, have expired licences or face equipment and network problems.

Monitoring equipment installation has also been delayed at some remote sites, while procedures for increasing extraction capacity and resolving other operational issues remain challenging.
