HCM City, southern Vietnam face flood risk from high tides

HCM City and southern Vietnam face a risk of flooding this weekend as heavy showers and thunderstorms coincide with rising tides, particularly in low-lying and riverside areas.

The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Centre forecast sunny conditions across HCM City and southern provinces on November 6, with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night.

Scattered evening showers are expected in the Mekong Delta, while temperatures will range from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius.

Forecasters said easterly wind disturbances would continue to influence regional weather, bringing hot and humid conditions during the day and thunderstorms later.

Rainfall is expected to concentrate mainly in Lam Dong and southeastern provinces.

In HCM City, locally heavy rain combined with high tides during the early tenth lunar month could flood low-lying and riverside areas.

At sea, northeasterly winds are forecast at Beaufort force 5 off the coast from Lam Dong to HCM City, force 4-5 from HCM City to Ca Mau, and east-northeasterly force 4 from Ca Mau to An Giang.

Between November 8 and 11, northeasterly winds could strengthen to force 5-6, with gusts reaching force 7-8 and waves rising to 2-2.5 metres.

Rough seas could threaten shipping, fishing and marine tourism activities.

Forecasters urged residents, particularly fishermen and others working at sea, to monitor weather updates and take precautions against strong winds, high waves and rough conditions.
