The city's People's Committee Chairman has instructed the Department of Construction to work with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on a proposal to expand the bridge's performance schedule, according to the municipal People's Committee Office on November 2.
The move follows a proposal from inland waterway tourism operators under the Danang Tourism Association, who said the current Friday-to-Sunday schedule leaves visitors staying during the week with fewer night-time attractions.
Operators reported a sharp decline in Han River sightseeing cruise passengers early in the week and proposed adding shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, leaving Mondays and Thursdays for maintenance.
The proposal also calls for upgraded sound and lighting systems, including synchronised LED displays along the dragon-shaped structure that change colour with accompanying music.
Longer-term plans envisage transforming the bridge and its surrounding areas into a night-time street festival destination featuring local culture, legends and architecture.
Tour boat operators currently contribute VND 5,000 per passenger towards the bridge's operating costs. With an average of 2,320 passengers daily, the scheme generates approximately VND 348 million (USD 13,200) a month.
Businesses have proposed doubling the contribution to VND 10,000 per passenger to fund additional performances and equipment upgrades.
They estimate that expanded shows could increase daily cruise passengers to around 3,480, potentially generating VND 34.8 million (USD 1,323) a day, or more than VND 1 billion (USD 38,000) a month.
The funds would cover lighting and sound equipment, fuel, staffing, maintenance, fire safety and traffic management around the bridge.
