Nguyen Hue Walking Street in Sai Gon Ward began attracting large crowds early in the evening, with festivities continuing until around midnight.

People wearing masks, elaborate costumes and dramatic face paint mingled with pedestrians, posing for photographs and enjoying the celebrations.

The colourful costumes, ranging from ghosts to fictional characters, transformed the busy pedestrian street into a festive Halloween gathering.

Pham Tran Bao Ngoc, 21, drew attention in a ghost bride costume, which she ordered online and spent two hours preparing. She said she was inspired to join this year's celebrations after seeing the lively atmosphere last year.

Children also joined the celebrations, many dressed as cartoon characters.

Crowds swelled along Bui Vien Street in Ben Thanh Ward as the night progressed, with visitors saying the atmosphere was livelier than last year as Halloween fell on a weekend.

Bars, restaurants and souvenir shops were decorated for Halloween.

Foreign tourists also joined the festivities, dressing as villains from popular films.

Costumed revellers frequently stopped to pose for photographs with visitors.

Face-painting stalls and Halloween accessory vendors also attracted large crowds throughout the night.
