The Southern Expressway Project Management Board said on October 30 that contractors were mobilising additional workers, equipment and funding to complete the remaining work.
Asphalt paving has begun on several sections, while contractors are seeking to overcome shortages of construction stone and asphalt materials.

At Long Thanh Bridge, construction of the main span is progressing, with most cantilever segments expected to be joined in December.
Work on the approach bridges includes completing the bridge deck on the Dong Nai side and accelerating construction of piers, pier caps and girder installation on the HCM City side.
Long Thanh Bridge is expected to be completed in February 2027.
At Song Tac Bridge, contractors aim to complete the joining of all cantilever segments in November and finish the bridge in December.
Meanwhile, the elevated sections have largely completed their substructures, with girder installation and upper-structure construction being accelerated.
The project is facing shortages of crushed stone used in cement concrete, asphalt concrete and road foundations.
According to the management board, several quarries meeting the project's technical requirements have reached their permitted production limits for 2026 and temporarily suspended operations.
Contractors are also experiencing severe asphalt supply shortages, with suppliers meeting only a small proportion of demand.
In response, Vietnam Expressway Corporation has instructed contractors to explore domestic material sources and shift from purchasing ready-mixed asphalt concrete to supplying materials directly to mixing plants.
Around 16,000 tonnes of asphalt materials will also be imported from Singapore and Malaysia to support the final construction stages.

The expansion project began on August 19, 2025, and is scheduled for completion in December 2026.
The expressway is a key transport link between HCM City and Long Thanh International Airport, supporting regional connectivity and future airport operations.
The project covers approximately 22 kilometres across HCM City and Dong Nai, with a total investment of nearly VND 15 trillion (USD 571 million).
The section between the Ring Road 2 and Ring Road 3 interchanges will be widened from four to eight lanes.
The section from Ring Road 3 to the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway interchange will be expanded from four to 10 lanes.
