Speedtest, a service that measures internet connection speeds and performance, has released its Global Internet Index for September 2026.

According to the report, the global average mobile internet download speed was 110.41Mbps, while the average upload speed was 13.99Mbps. For fixed broadband, the corresponding figures were 134.75Mbps and 67.99Mbps.

In Vietnam, the average mobile internet download speed rose from 151.78Mbps in January to 230.31Mbps in September.

As a result, Vietnam climbed from 29th to eighth in the global rankings. This marks the first time the country has entered the world's top eight for mobile internet speed.

In Asia, Vietnam ranked fifth, behind the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and South Korea. It led Southeast Asia in mobile internet speed.

Vietnam ranks 10th globally for fixed broadband

For fixed broadband, Vietnam rose from 12th at the beginning of the year to 10th in September 2026. However, this was below its peak of seventh place, recorded in May.

According to Speedtest, Vietnam's fixed broadband had an average download speed of 297.64Mbps and an average upload speed of 253.53Mbps.

Based on download speeds in Asia, Vietnam ranked sixth, behind Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong (China), Macao (China) and Thailand. In Southeast Asia, it ranked third, after Singapore and Thailand.

Singapore continued to lead the world in fixed broadband speed, recording average download and upload speeds of 476.02Mbps and 374.33Mbps, respectively, in September. Published statistics show that the country topped the rankings in 11 of the 12 months from September 2025.

The expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, the availability of high-bandwidth internet packages and the rollout of commercial 5G services in late 2024 have all contributed to improved internet access in Vietnam.
