The Danang People's Committee Office said on October 21 that Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc had signed a decision approving the city's master plan to 2050, with a vision to 2075.
Under the plan, Danang's population is projected to reach 5.5 million by 2040 and exceed 6.5 million by 2050, including 4.7 million and 5.4 million permanent residents, respectively.

By 2050, the city is expected to have about 30 urban areas, comprising 23 existing centres and seven new ones. Four major urban centres will be Danang, Tam Ky, Hoi An and Dien Ban.
Central Danang, together with proposed reclaimed coastal developments, will serve as the city's main growth hub, focusing on international finance, tourism, free trade, logistics and innovation.
Its population is projected to reach around 2.26 million by 2050, excluding an estimated 400,000 residents in proposed land reclamation developments.
Tam Ky will focus on innovation, healthcare, education and economic development, supporting the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.
Hoi An will remain a major tourism and cultural centre within the Hoi An-Cu Lao Cham-My Son heritage triangle, while Dien Ban will pursue sustainable urban growth, maritime industries, cultural activities and services.
The master plan adopts a multi-centre development model organised around three geographical zones, three growth hubs, two north-south axes and four east-west corridors.
The northern growth hub, covering Danang, Dien Ban and Hoi An, will prioritise finance, tourism, high technology and logistics.
The southern hub, comprising Chu Lai, Tam Ky and Nui Thanh, will focus on industry, energy, science and technology. A third hub south of Hoi An will develop new urban areas, tourism and trade.
Transport corridors will strengthen connections between coastal areas, mountainous districts, the Central Highlands and international border crossings.
The city will also prioritise major infrastructure projects, including regional transport links, drainage systems, flood prevention, waste and wastewater treatment, and research and innovation centres.
Between 2026 and 2030, Danang aims to complete detailed planning, improve transport connectivity and advance major projects involving free trade, an international financial centre and coastal land reclamation, subject to legal requirements.
From 2030 to 2040, the city plans to expand its coastal urban network, strengthen links between growth hubs and promote balanced development in western areas.
By 2050, Danang aims to become a modern, environmentally sustainable and internationally competitive coastal city, with a longer-term vision of becoming a globally connected urban centre by 2075.
