Tang Chi Thuong, director of the municipal Department of Health, said the city People's Committee had approved the expansion to ensure more residents could access the programme.

The policy covers Vietnamese citizens living in HCM City who have not registered permanent or temporary residence but whose current address is verified through the national electronic identification app VNeID.
The move aims to broaden healthcare coverage and prevent eligible residents from being overlooked.
As of October 19, more than 6.3 million people in HCM City had undergone health examinations or screenings.
These included more than 1.2 million workers, representing 27.7 per cent of the target group, nearly 2.3 million school pupils (87.1 per cent) and almost 130,000 university students (29.3 per cent).
While screening coverage among school pupils was relatively high, authorities said greater efforts were needed to reach workers and university students.
Of the city's 168 wards, communes and special zones, 86 had achieved screening coverage of at least 50 per cent. Among them, 47 had reached 60 per cent, 22 had reached 70 per cent and seven had exceeded 80 per cent.
Only two wards, Cau Ong Lanh and Phu Thanh, recorded coverage below 30 per cent.
The Department of Health had also assessed 50 healthcare facilities under its citywide screening quality programme.
Of these, 22 facilities, or 44 per cent, received an A rating, while 28, or 56 per cent, were rated B. None received a C rating.
High-performing facilities included Binh Duong General Hospital, People's Hospital 115, Cu Chi Regional General Hospital, Di An Regional Medical Centre and Le Van Thinh Hospital.
The department plans to extend quality assessments to private general clinics and help healthcare providers improve their services.
It has also instructed all 168 local administrations to accelerate health screenings, particularly for workers, students and people who have yet to be examined.
Local authorities must update eligibility lists, work with police to verify residence information through VNeID, prepare funding estimates and arrange examinations under the expanded policy.
