Quang Tri Province's Border Guard Command said its officers had worked with police in Laos' Savannakhet Province to dismantle a network suspected of storing, trading and transporting illegal fireworks from Laos into Vietnam.

The three suspects were arrested on October 19 in My Yen-Ma Hat Village, Sepon District, Savannakhet Province.
They were identified as A May, born in 1962 and nicknamed the "Border Godfather", Thao A Lam, born in 1983, and Thao Do, born in 1981. All three live in the village.
The arrests followed a joint operation on September 13, when Vietnamese border guards and Lao police searched seven warehouses in My Yen-Ma Hat Village.
Officers discovered 1,120 cartons containing various types of fireworks and firecrackers, weighing approximately 30 tonnes.
The seized items included 49-shot, 36-shot, nine-shot and 186-shot fireworks, along with other types of explosive fireworks and firecrackers.
The suspects initially escaped into nearby forests under cover of darkness, taking advantage of heavy rain, flooding and difficult terrain.
Vietnamese and Lao authorities continued their investigation and search operations before arresting the three men on October 19.
Quang Tri border guards described the seizure as the largest quantity of illegal fireworks recovered in a single operation to date.
The confiscated fireworks were subsequently destroyed by Vietnamese and Lao authorities in accordance with regulations.
Investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend others suspected of involvement in the network.
