At around 11.40 am, the nipa palm leaf-shaped structure passed Diamond Island and headed towards the Saigon River Tunnel, with residents gathering along both banks to watch the massive steel span make its way upstream.

The barge carrying the pedestrian bridge span approaches Diamond Island at around 11.30 am.

At that point, the barge was about 11 kilometres from the pedestrian bridge construction site.

The remaining route included three major bends near Phu My Bridge, Tan Thuan Peninsula and part of Thu Thiem Peninsula.

The towing convoy passes Phu My Bridge at around 10.30 am on its way to central HCM City.

The giant steel structure, designed to resemble a nipa palm leaf, stood out against the lush nipa palm forests beneath Phu My Bridge.

The journey forms part of a 124-kilometre towing operation to transport the bridge's main span to its installation site, ahead of a planned joining operation on October 21.

After passing Phu My Bridge, the convoy was expected to continue towards Ben Nghe and reach the construction site later on October 19.
