Ba Vi National Park bans reckless riders during flower season

Ba Vi National Park in Hanoi will refuse entry to reckless motorcyclists and riders violating traffic safety rules as thousands of visitors are expected during the wild sunflower season.

The park announced that its 2026 wild sunflower season runs from October 17 to December 6, with peak flowering expected between November 1 and 23.

Visitors can enjoy winding mountain roads lined with bright yellow wild sunflowers on their way from the entrance to the pine forest at an elevation of 400 metres.

About 200 metres beyond the pine forest, visitors can park their vehicles and walk another 300 metres to reach a 10-hectare wild sunflower forest, which features more than three kilometres of walking trails.

To ensure visitor safety, the park said it would refuse to sell tickets to motorcyclists riding without helmets or valid licences, as well as those using vehicles without registration plates or rear-view mirrors.

Riders caught speeding, weaving through traffic, performing wheelies or driving under the influence of alcohol will also be denied entry.

Visitors must follow park regulations, avoid picking flowers or breaking branches, refrain from hunting wildlife and dispose of rubbish properly.

The park warned that vehicles continue to use its mountain roads, requiring particular caution on steep slopes and when stopping to take photographs.

It recommended visiting on weekdays to avoid weekend crowds and possible traffic congestion.

Visitors travelling from central Hanoi can reach the park via Thang Long Boulevard or National Highway 32 before joining Provincial Road 414 towards Son Tay-Da Chong. The park entrance is signposted at kilometre 8.8.

Those travelling from Phu Tho Province can cross Vinh Thinh, Trung Ha, Van Lang or Dong Quang bridges before following Provincial Road 414.

The park advised motorists to check their vehicles and fuel levels before travelling uphill and warned against switching off engines or coasting downhill in neutral.

Visitors are also advised not to carry weapons or potentially dangerous objects and to wear comfortable, non-slip footwear.

Admission fees are VND 60,000 (USD 2.30) for adults, VND 20,000 for university students and VND 10,000 for schoolchildren. A discounted VND 30,000 ticket is available for visitors aged over 60 and people with disabilities, among other eligible groups.

Car parking fees are calculated by the hour, with the electronic payment system automatically excluding 60 minutes of driving time within the park.

Wild sunflowers were introduced to Ba Vi by the French in the 1930s and have since flourished naturally in the park.

Their golden blooms, typically appearing in late autumn and early winter, have become a seasonal attraction against the forested slopes of Ba Vi Mountain.

Beyond flower viewing, visitors can explore walking trails and enjoy the mountain scenery associated with the legendary love story of Tan Vien Mountain Saint and Princess Ngoc Hoa in Vietnamese folklore.
