Located about 70 kilometres north of Quy Nhon, Mui Vi Rong is part of Tan Phung Mountain in Phu My Dong Commune.
Viewed from a distance, its layered sedimentary rocks stretch into the sea, resembling the fins of a dragon rising from the water.

At the foot of the headland lies Dragon Cave, where waves crash against the rocks. The surrounding area is also home to Tan Phung fishing village, which has more than 300 years of history.
According to local residents, Tan Phung Mountain served as a coastal lookout and a secret base sheltering revolutionary cadres and soldiers during the wars against French and American forces.
Gia Lai authorities recently recognised Mui Vi Rong-Tan Phung Mountain as a provincial-level historical and scenic heritage site, acknowledging its cultural and natural significance.

The designation is expected to strengthen the area's tourism appeal as Gia Lai hosts the 2026 National Tourism Year under the theme "Gia Lai – Mountains Meet the Sea".
Cam Vi, a tourist from Hanoi, said she was impressed by the rugged landscape during an unplanned visit to Tan Phung fishing village.
"The most striking feature was the reddish ridges running through the rocks, which looked just like dragon fins," she added.
"The scenery remains largely untouched. In the afternoon, children play football on the beach, and local people are very welcoming. It is an ideal place to experience nature and traditional coastal life."
Beyond its natural attractions, Phu My Dong offers visitors an insight into local spiritual traditions at Nam Hai Whale Temple, located at the foot of Tan Phung Mountain.
The annual Cau Ngu fishing festival celebrates the community's maritime traditions and strengthens ties among local fishing families.

According to Nguyen Kim Trac, vice-chairman of the Phu My Dong Commune People's Committee, local authorities were planning roads linking Mui Vi Rong with Hon Dun, Hon Tranh, Chau Truc Lagoon and Sau Xuan Thanh Beach.
The proposed routes would improve access to nearby attractions and allow visitors to explore local cuisine and coastal village life.
Trac said Mui Vi Rong had been identified as a priority tourism destination, with improved transport links central to its development.
However, he stressed that tourism development must be balanced with the protection of natural landscapes and the preservation of traditional cultural values.
