Hanoi continues expanding electric bus fleet

Hanoi has introduced 15 electric buses on Route 31, replacing its entire diesel fleet as the city accelerates efforts to cut emissions and expand green public transport.

Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) began operating 15 VinFast EB8 electric buses on October 15 along Route 31, connecting Bach Khoa with Chem and the University of Mining and Geology.

Each bus can carry up to 60 passengers, with the new fleet replacing all diesel-powered vehicles previously operating on the route.

The green buses feature Hanoibus branding, including peace dove motifs and images of Khue Van Pavilion, a symbol of Hanoi.

They are equipped with low floors for easier boarding, accessibility features for passengers with disabilities and other modern amenities.

Transerco said the latest deployment was part of its ongoing transition to electric public transport throughout October.

On October 5-6, the company replaced 53 conventional buses with electric vehicles on Routes 22A, 22B, 30 and 50.

Another 15 electric buses entered service on Route 83, linking Gia Lam Bus Station with Hung Yen Bus Station, on October 8, followed by 11 vehicles on Route 33 on October 12.

The company aims to increase the share of its fleet converted to green vehicles to more than 51 per cent by the end of 2026.

Transerco said the transition would help reduce emissions, improve passenger services and support the development of a more sustainable public transport network in Hanoi.
