Quang Tri revamps beaches to boost tourism

Quang Tri Province is upgrading its beachfront areas, improving transport links and developing new attractions to draw more visitors and boost tourism revenue.

At Nhat Le Beach, around 80 businesses have agreed to vacate their premises to make way for coastal redevelopment, including 29 restaurant operators at Nhat Le 2 Beach who are preparing to relocate.

The move marks progress in efforts to reorganise the beachfront, which have faced difficulties for years.

Under the proposed plan, the redevelopment area along Truong Phap Street and Nhat Le Beach will cover about 96 hectares, with estimated investment of nearly VND 1.8 trillion (USD 68 million).

The eastern side of Truong Phap Street will feature parks, public squares, beaches and public spaces, while the western side will accommodate urban developments, services and car parks.

Plans to widen Truong Phap Street and improve connecting roads aim to ease access to the coast and support tourism and nighttime economic activities.

Nguyen Thi Tinh, owner of Lang Bien Restaurant, said local businesses supported the redevelopment but wanted authorities to ensure fair compensation and assistance during relocation.

Similar improvements are planned for Da Nhay Beach, as the province seeks to diversify coastal tourism beyond traditional summer beach holidays.

Quang Tri is also working to accelerate investment projects, including the proposed U Bo-Thac Chuoi Lake ecotourism, resort and entertainment complex.

Covering more than 167 hectares, the project has an estimated investment of over VND 16.2 trillion (USD 616 million). Provincial authorities are seeking to begin construction by late October 2026.

Transport connectivity is another priority. A heritage tourism train linking Hue and Phong Nha was launched at Dong Hoi Station on August 28, offering visitors a new way to explore regional attractions.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways also began operating flights connecting Dong Hoi with Hanoi and Cam Ranh on August 16, expanding air travel options.

The province is planning more cultural and entertainment events to attract visitors throughout the year.

Quang Tri Culture and Tourism Week 2026 is scheduled for November 24-30, with activities at Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Tri Citadel and the Hien Luong-Ben Hai historic site.

Authorities are also considering holding Quang Tri Culture Day on the 24th of each month, while local tourism businesses are exploring proposals for monthly fireworks displays.

The initiatives aim to develop year-round tourism products and attract visitors beyond peak holiday periods.

Tourism figures show continued growth. Quang Tri welcomed approximately 9.4 million visitors in the first nine months of 2026, up 11.67 per cent year on year.

Tourism revenue was estimated at VND 10.81 trillion (USD 411 million), also up 11.67 per cent. Overnight visitor numbers rose 17.1 per cent, while accommodation revenue increased 17.8 per cent.
