Hue studies plan for canopy over pedestrian streets

Hue authorities have agreed to study a canopy for the Chu Van An-Pham Ngu Lao-Vo Thi Sau pedestrian streets and upgrade public spaces along the An Cuu River.

Le Tri Thanh, chairman of the Hue People’s Committee, chaired a meeting on October 9 to discuss proposed investments in Thuan Hoa Ward, including plans for a canopy over the three pedestrian streets.

City leaders asked the ward authorities to publish the proposal and invite feedback from residents, particularly local business owners. Implementation should follow a clear timetable, with construction progress linked to efforts to encourage residents to improve their shopfronts and building facades.

The area stretching from Ga Bridge to the riverside park along the An Cuu River, opposite Hue Railway Station, is earmarked for more greenery, improved landscaping and spaces for relaxation, recreation and exercise. The riverbanks could also combine community facilities with commercial and service activities.

The city has asked local authorities to invite investors to propose food, leisure and sightseeing experiences on and along the river.

Hue also plans to make greater use of cultural institutions along Le Loi Street to develop cultural, culinary and artistic spaces reflecting the city’s identity.

For major urban renewal projects requiring substantial investment, Thanh asked local authorities to continue conducting surveys, reviewing planning arrangements and calculating costs, including potential resettlement expenses. They were also instructed to explore ways to use available land to generate funding for the projects.

The pedestrian area in Hue’s western quarter, known as the tourist district, stretches for more than 1km and comprises Pham Ngu Lao, Chu Van An and Vo Thi Sau streets.
