Flood warning issued for rivers in central Vietnam

Rivers from Ha Tinh Province to Hue City could experience flooding on October 9-10, with water levels forecast to reach alert levels 1-2 and exceed level 2 in some areas.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that rising river levels could cause flooding in low-lying riverside communities and urban areas.

According to its 9 am bulletin on October 9, water levels were rising in southern Quang Tri, while rivers in Ha Tinh and Hue were fluctuating below the first alert level.

During the expected flood period, river levels could peak at alert levels 1-2, with some exceeding level 2. The overall flood disaster risk has been classified as level 1.

Forecasters warned of flooding in low-lying areas, as well as flash floods and landslides on steep slopes across the affected region.

Rising waters could disrupt river transport, aquaculture, agriculture and daily life, while affecting local economic activities.

Residents and local authorities have been advised to closely monitor weather warnings and prepare appropriate response measures.
