On September 5, authorities inspected a pig farm owned by the pair and found that 2,349 pigs had tested positive for banned lean-meat additives used in livestock farming.

Inspectors documented the violations and seized all the live pigs, which had a combined weight of about 305 tonnes and an estimated market value of more than VND 15 billion (USD 578,000).

During questioning, the two suspects admitted buying the banned substances and mixing them into animal feed to accelerate weight gain and increase their profits, investigators said. The authorities discovered the violations before the pigs could be sold on the market.

All 2,349 pigs have since been destroyed in accordance with the law.

Dong Nai police are continuing to investigate the case and identify other people who may be involved.
